Counseling Program Admissions

If you have any questions about the admissions process or the status of your application, please feel free to contact the Admissions Coordinator, Melynda Whitwell.

In order to be admitted into the Counseling Program a prospective student must submit:

  • An application to the University of Memphis Graduate School which includes the following:
    • Complete Formal Graduate School application
    • Official undergraduate transcripts
    • Official graduate transcripts (if applicable)
    • 3 references- these should be from professors and employers
    • Engage in an in-person interview with department faculty (to be scheduled)
    • Required GRE minimum scores
      • GRE scores: Verbal 380 and Quantitative 420
      • Revised GRE scores: Verbal 145 and Quantitative 140

Important Deadlines for Completed Application Packets

Masters Degree Admission Deadlines

  • Fall - March 1
  • Spring - October 1

Certificate in Career and College Counseling Admission Deadlines

  • Fall - March 1
  • Spring - October 1

Doctoral Degree Admission Deadline

  • Fall - March 1

It is strongly recommended that application packets be submitted in early February or early September which includes having taken the Graduate Record Examination several 500 Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there is an error in the application.
